Folding Caravan Safety

Welcome to FoldingCaravan.com, the site for folding caravan safety tips plus some great online used caravan bargains. When it comes to camping and caravanning, you can't be too safe. The back to basics nature of life in a caravan can be invigorating but there are a few risks that can easily be minimised to make it that bit more enjoyable.

Remember to lower the legs or steadies on the caravan! Avoid injury and broken possessions by ensuring that the caravan is level and has its legs lowered into position before you begin to erect it.

Cooking should be confined to outdoors areas. Gas, fire and boiling liquids are not ideal in the confined space of a folding caravan and wherever possible all your stoves and cooking should be kept outside. In all instance gas bottles should be stored outside and all pipes, rubber hoses, seals, clips and regulators should be checked regularly.

Keep aerosols, gas canisters and solvents outside the caravan. Aerosol gases and solvent fumes could easily overcome somebody inside an enclosed caravan. They are also highly flammable and should be stored and used in a well ventilated outside area.

Take care when using bunk beds. Many four berth caravans comprise a double bed (made up from a dinette) and two bunks made up from a sofa area. These bunks normally have a stell mechanism to hold them up in place and you must ensure that these are properly locked into position before any person gets into the upper or lower bunk. Remember that top bunks are often only suitable for younger children and you should check weight limits. You also need to ensure that the safety rail is deployed to prevent the occupant of the top bunk from rolling out and dropping to the floor.
